19 Bizzare rules by The Queen which were broken by the Royal Family

Royal Palace has numerous rules which every royal member has to follow. But in a family such big who can track the indiscipline. Following are 19 rules which were broken by the royal family:

  1. No Shellfish

The family must avoid eating shellfish at a public event as they fear running into food poisoning. But try telling that Prince Charles clearly has a taste for it.

  1. Christmas is strictly family

It’s a rule for the family to stick around on Christmas. And you thought only you had stress prepping the family ham. But the rule was breaking when Meghan attended the Christmas dinner, even before she was an official Duchess.

  1. The heirs must travel separately

Let’s just say that this is a precautionary rule for the heirs to not travel together, as something bad might happen. Every time Prince William and Prince George are traveling together, they are breaking this rule.

  1. Prince Charles walked down the aisle with Meghan Markle

As Meghan’s dad couldn’t attend the royal wedding, it was Prince Charles, her father-in-law, who performed her father’s duty by walking with her down the aisle. Though cute or sweet it may seem; it was against the tradition of the Royals.

  1. No Nicknames

The queen finds it too casual for them to have nicknames and mandates every royal person to call each other with full names. But Meghan while giving the toast at her wedding reception referred to Harry as “my prince”. After all who can say ‘no’ to bride.

  1. No men in birthing room

Royal women didn’t allow their husbands to witness birth of their offspring by not letting them into the birthing room. Maybe they didn’t care much for “crowning” joke. (sorry) It was Queen Elizabeth who broke the stereotype and allowed her husband, Prince Philip, while giving birth to their child Prince Edward.

  1. Queen doesn’t attend any funerals

Nope, she is not heartless. It’s just that she doesn’t wish to be centre of attraction at someone’s funeral. Although in 2019, it was reported of Queen Elizabeth attending the Head Housekeeper’s, Annette Wilkin, funeral. apparently they were quite close and Annette had served the house for around 40 years.

  1. Royals are not allowed to run for office

Royals can neither run for office nor campaign for one. They are not even allowed to vote. Politicians and Royals lead different paths. The rule was broken by Meghan Markle when she got all vocal for the #metoo movement.

  1. Royals don’t bow down

A slight bend in the knee is allowed but they bow in front of someone. Princess Diana was the first member of the royal family to crouch and talk to others, as she believed that “someone might be nervous around you or maybe you are talking to young kid or a sick person,” as per Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty magazine. Maybe that earned her the title “princess of people”.

  1. Black only for funerals

When Princess Eugenie wore an all-black dress to an event, she broke a rule that all-black dresses are meant only for funerals. She looked cute but sorry Eugenie.

  1. No selfies

Royals are not allowed to click selfies in public but Prince Harry has been spotted quite a few time just like his famous selfie with former President Barack Obama. Reportedly, Meghan had denied it when requested by an actor.

  1. You can’t touch them

You can meet them, greet them, but touching is off-limits. Unless you are LeBron James.

The rule was also broken by Prince William when he met survivors of The Griffey Tower fire, where a woman sobbed at his chest, and with his arm around her, he promised her that he would everything to find their loved ones.

  1. And they can’t touch each other

Well, the touching rule applies to everybody. No matter how much in love they can’t hold each other’s hand. It was Harry and Meghan who held hands in an appearance in 2017. It is normal among couples to hold hands but there has to be some difference between normals and royals.

  1. NO PDA

Harry and Meghan should’ve stopped at holding hands but they went on to full kiss when Prince won a polo match in 2018. Isn’t the “NO PDA” rule kind of obvious?

  1. Cannot show too much skin

Royals cannot expose too much skin or unnecessary skin. The rule was broken by Princess Diana when she wore a “revenge dress” – probably the sexist dress ever to be worn by a royal. It was the night when Prince Charles had admitted cheating on her on national TV.

  1. Cover your knees, woman

Royal women are not allowed to show their knees. The Queen expects them to wear dresses long enough to hide their knees. Kate wore a dress in 2011 which was a clear violation of the said rule and let’s not talk about how Meghan got her knees, not just out her dress but on the trending list.

  1. Royals don’t give out autographs

It was The Queen herself who broke this rule when she was spotted signing a boys’ soccer ball. Also Prince Charles and Meghan, so pretty lot of royals take it for granted.

18. All women must sit the same way

The Crown demands the royal women to sit in a particular way but it was Meghan Markle who went “Royal Protocol who?” in front of The Queen.

19. Once you’ve gone royal, you can never go back

If you marry a royal, you’ve to drain your name and officially be referred to only formal titles. But with all these rules, can you? We all know who ditched their royal status to have a normal life. Yup, Harry and Meghan.
