IRS ‘Get My Payment’: Track down your $1,400 stimulus check with this online tool

As of Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service informed that more than 90 million Americans have received coronavirus relief checks under the initial round of payments made under President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

You can find out when your next stimulus payment is expected to come in your bank account or get mailed using the IRS “Get My Payment” tool. More than 35 million people used the tool to get their 2021 stimulus payment status. The IRS says the tool “updates once per day, usually overnight.”

Economic Impact Payments third round will be based on the taxpayer’s latest processed tax return from either 2020 or 2019.

How to use IRS ‘Get My Payment’

The “Get My Payment” tool is available at www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment. To start using the tool, enter your full Social Security number or tax ID number, date of birth, street address, and ZIP code.

To eligible people, the tool will show a “Payment Status” of when the payment has been issued and the date of payment for direct deposit or mail, according to the IRS’ frequently asked questions.

Everyone who is eligible may not have a payment date under “Payment Status” when they log in initially, the IRS said.

‘Payment Status Not Available’ or ‘Need More Information’

If you get a message saying “Payment Status Not Available,” it means either the IRS has not yet processed your payment, or you are not eligible for a payment. To eligible individuals, the IRS will continue to send the Economic Impact Payment throughout 2021.

And others will get a message saying  “Need More Information”  when using the tool if the payment was returned to the IRS because the post office failed to deliver it for another reason.

The IRS says, if your address has changed, the easiest way to update is to file your 2020 tax return with your current address, if you haven’t already done so. Once the IRS receives your current address, it will reissue your payment.

In the coming weeks, more sets of payments will be sent via direct deposit and through the mail as a check or debit card. Some people may see  “pending” in the direct deposit payments session or as provisional payments in their accounts before the official payment date of March 17, the IRS said.
