Review: Kate Winslet’s detective drama ‘Mare of Easttown’ is way above any other detective show
‘Mare of Easttown’ on HBO is a spectacular detective drama and a murder mystery starring Kate Winslet who plays the role of a small town detective ‘Mare’.
The characters of this show appear amazingly real, the drama much more nuanced and the clues quite shocking. It promises to be way beyond the imagination of an ordinary murder mystery.
The story is set in the small hamlet Easttown in Pennsylvania where detective Mare is on an investigative mission about a teen mom Erin McMenamin’s murder. Her murder is suspected of being linked to the sudden disappearance of two other young ladies in the same town.

Detective Colin Zabel is called in as her backup to help Mare in her investigation. The cop seems to be quite annoying to Mare with his youth and peppiness.
The story takes a quite complicated personal turn on Mare’s life, where she can be seen struggling to cope up with her depressed life. Her life seems to be shattered with her split and the suicide of his son after giving birth to her grandson.

The Actress (45) plays a grandmother, where she has taken the responsibility for her four year old grandson along with her mother Helen and her daughter Siobhan, trying to cut off the custodial claims by the boy’s mother Carrie as she is an addict. Her ex being recently engaged, Mare has her chances visible towards Richard Ryan, the new writer in town.
Kate has delivered an extremely exceptional performance as Mare who seems quite relatable even with all her flaws. She has proven herself with extreme dedication towards her role, even when it comes to mastering theĀ regional accent.
Peters, who plays Colin alongside Mare has delivered a commendable performance too and that too in an adult role after many years of playing teen superhero characters in ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’
Scriptwriter Brad Ingelsby has done a great job with his script. Kate has some great supporting actors like Jean Smart who plays her mother Helen and Peters of course!
Like the rest of detective and crime shows, ‘Mare of Easttown’ unfortunately seems to have a similar story in terms of sexualizing women and violence against them by showing naked dead women and the stripping of the sex workers.
Yet, ‘Mare’ promises to be an exceptional one and way better than any other detective dramas and murder mysteries.
