Elisabeth Moss talks about The Handmaid’s Tale, her directorial debut and more in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
In the recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Elisabeth Moss, the star of The Handmaid’s Tale made the guest appearance. After a prolonged wait, finally, the 4th season is to be premiered on April 28th.
As Corona could have it, Jimmy Fallon had a virtual talk with Elisabeth Moss. Before diving into the obvious topic, Jimmy teased the actress about being an absolute Chicago Cubs enthusiast. He further delved on how great would it must have been to make a movie together with another Cubs’ fan Bill Murray. To which, Elisabeth replied, “Bill Murray, for a Cubs fan he’s like a God. Like he’s not just a Cubs fan. He’s more important than most players on the Cubs.”
Elisabeth further added, “I didn’t have the guts to bring the Cubs up to him until, literally, I was like, walking out with my bag and I ran into him and I was like, If I don’t say something to him, I’m gonna regret it.”
She recalls how she embarrassingly blurted out, “Uh yeah, Cubs are great. I’m a, you know, Cubs fan. Yeah, they’re doing good this year.”
To her utter surprise, Murray was a gentleman through and through and didn’t make any fun of her.
Diverting the conversation away from Murray, Jimmy pointed out, “Talking of the high-pressure things you’ve done, you threw out at the first pitch at Cubs Games.” Showing her picture, he asked, rhetorically “Was that nerve-racking?”
Then expressing his wonderment, he added, “I don’t understand why would you do it. I would have never done it because I am too afraid. Honestly, I would…Questlove’s done it. It was awful.”
“I heard about that “, Elisabeth replied.
“It was terrible like the Phanatic was making fun of him. Everything with the…But it was like, you know Quest is just so lovable. So, he did it, and that was fun. But I would be afraid. I mean, I’d do it at Yankee Stadium. I’d be booed out of the city.” Fallon said further.
After dancing around the other topics a little, Jimmy finally asked the most anticipated question, “What can everyone expect for this season.”
To this, Elisabeth replied sarcastically, “Again, more laughs, more pratfalls, you know?”
Then the conversation drifted to how she chose to make her directorial debut amidst the pandemic, practically the worst of all times.
“I chose to direct the first, Episode 3 was going to be my directorial debut before Covid. Then we shut down for six months, went back, and then all of a sudden. I did that episode. I did two more. I did episodes 8 and 9. I was like, because nobody else was there a lot of the time, like, the directors. Like, if a director finished their work and left and they didn’t want to come back and quarantine for two weeks, somebody had to direct it. So, all of a sudden, I was like, the sort of director on hand. And it would be like, ‘Lizzie,we got this, like drone shot we need you to do. Would you mind just like, running out and grabbing that?'”
The Tonight Show ended with a clip from an episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, that Moss had directed, which was absolutely thrilling.
We cannot wait to watch the upcoming season and see what it has in store!
