Barack Obama expresses concern over ongoing situation in Myanmar
Former President Barack Obama has asked the world to draw its attention towards the ongoing democratic crisis in Myanmar.
Myanmar Army seized control on 1 February following a general election which Ms. Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party won by a landslide.
With his tweet, he condemned the coup and the brutal crackdown of the Myanmar military over the protestors by killing them violently. ” The world’s attention must remain on Myanmar, where I’ve been appalled by heartbreaking violence against civilians and inspired by the nationwide movement that represents the voice of the people,” says Obama’s recent tweet.

Reportedly, nearly 700 people have been killed by the army since February 1st, 2021.
President Obama praised the efforts of the Biden administration and other countries who are doing an effort in order to reverse the coup. Mr Biden had earlier said that he was issuing an executive order that will prevent Myanmar’s generals from accessing $1 billion in assets in the United States.
With the tweet, Obama asked people to be united and patient.
Mr. Obama also noted the resilience of people fighting for a democratic nation and has asked them to forge solidarity.
