Joe Biden tweets in honor of Missing Indigenous Persons day

Today, President Joe Biden tweeted in honor of The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Day and about the government’s firm and committed intentions towards working with Tribal Nations.

May 5 is regarded to be national awareness day for murdered and missing indigenous woman because this day marks the birthday on Hanna Harris- a 21-year-old woman and member of the Northern Cheyyene tribe who was killed in 2013.

In 2019, governor Steve Bullock signed the Hanna’s Act and it was subsequently put into action. The act officially authorized and provided funding to the Montana Department of Justice to assist local law enforcement authorities in missing persons cases through a specialist that would help in quickly coordinate and conduct searches for Montanans and especially Native Americans.

Harris would’ve turned 29 years old this year today.
