Here are 5 serious things we decide to ignore in F.R.I.E.N.D.S

“I’ll be there for you”, have you quoted this to your best friend and couldn’t help but regret it when he/she actually messed up! The “most loved show on television” has its share of flaws too. Perfect friendships even though “your job’s a joke, you’re broke and your love life is DOA”? Do they exist ? 6 F.R.I.E.N.D.S living together all day long, don’t feel suffocated in each other’s company? We all know better, right?

Let us, for once, pay heed to where F.R.I.E.N.D.S falls short  –

1. Cheating = WE WERE ON A BREAK?

Ross has a penchant for cheating. Even though he was “on a break” in the case of Rachel, what about Bonnie and Julie? Somewhere, the show leads to ‘cheating’ being normalised. Dating one of his students was also sort of disrespect to the academic boundaries. As many YouTube videos suggest, Ross’s behaviour at certain points looks inexcusable without the laughing soundtrack.

2. Who’s broke?

Does her “smelly cat” pay her bills? Joey earns, right? Think again. Even though generous Chandler fends for his best friend, but how much? It’s New York City. Unlike the title track, nobody is broke in the show. The makers really forgot to include that dimension.

3. Joey was wrong!

Have you just  looked a woman up and down and said, “Hey, how you doin’?” ?What happened next? Though all his idiosyncracies are labelled as “cute”, are they explainable?

4. No diversity!

As often the show has been ridiculed on this prospect, 6 friends living in NYC in the 1990s and all are White Americans. Weird, ain’t it? Across the 10 seasons, there are certain minor characters who are of color. Of the recurring characters, it’s only Ross’s girlfriend, Julie and Dr. Charlie Wheeler.

5. So much time on hand?

As pointed out before, Joey and Phoebe have no proper job. But what about the others? How do Chandler, Monica, Ross and Rachel make so much time to hangout with them? In real life, we all know how the schedules never match, how one has to overwork and there’s so much more?
