Flag raised in Barrie Pride lowered as the dead remains of children discovered

Barrie Pride, a social and civic community-based in Ontario, Canada focused on empowering people who are oppressed and victimized for being LGBTQ2I+, in honor of the start of Pride Month raised the progressive pride flag at its City Hall, but immediately lowered it post the news of remains of 215 children found at the site of a former residential school.

The community which has been working towards supporting and advocating to be proud of their sexuality and their identity for 8 consecutive years posted from its official Facebook handle today how the flag was lowered half-mast to pay respect for the families that had lost their children. It also said amidst the current pandemic situation, it won’t be organizing any gathering or events as Pride Month which begins in June is marked with many public gatherings like parades, picnics, workshops etc.
