Washington Prime Group Inc. files for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

On Sunday Washington Prime Columbus, Ohio owner filed for bankruptcy protection, chapter 11. They had to take the step because of the pandemic and the many lockdowns it brought along. The mall is not the first to declare bankruptcy after and during the pandemic, many other organisations did not manage the devastation caused by the COVID 19.

The announcement was made through a press release that said “The COVID-19 pandemic has created significant challenges for many companies, including Washington Prime Group, making a Chapter 11 filing necessary to reduce the Company’s outstanding indebtedness.”

The company has secured $100 million financings from the creditors who have turned to support it through the Chapter 11 procedure.
