NCAA looses its landmark antitrust case in the SC; ruling in favour of athletes seeking academic scholarships

The lawsuit actually challenged the limitations NCAA exercises on the benefits given to athletes. After this ruling, however, any benefits that take into consideration the academia of the athletes, will be provided to them without any kind of limitations. The court’s decision was unanimous.

Division I basketball or Bowl Subdivision football players will be eligible for cash or equivalent awards based on academics or graduation, scholarships for graduation, under- graduation from schools.

“Nobody questions that Division I basketball and FBS football can proceed (and have proceeded) without the education-related compensation restrictions the district court enjoined; the games go on,” wrote Justice Neil M. Gorsuch.
