Jason Segel expresses how it will be hard for kids to watch ‘Freaks and Geeks’ today
Freaks and Geeks, a show that aired in 2000 for only one seaon, can now be streamed on Hulu. The show was created by Paul Feig and executive produced by Judd Apatow. The school dramedy was set in the ’80s. However, it is now back on Hulu and with all of its original soundtracks intact.
The show’s alum Jason Segel isn’t too sure that the show will be appreciated by the new and young audience in the same way it was appreciated by the audience back then.
“For a kid watching Freaks and Geeks now, it’ll be hard for them to contextualize that that took place in [the 1980s], even though we filmed it in 2000″ Segel said. “They’re just going to think that’s what 2000 was like. I don’t know what the experience would be like to watch something from 20 years ago. That’s insane to me.”
The actor related his apprehension to the time when he first watched Singin’ In The Rain.
Recalling his experience of working on the sets of Freaks and Geeks, the actor called it one of the experiences of his his life. He also said that he learned to do improv for some of the takes.
The actor said, “The scenes are all beautifully written, but a lot of the time Judd and Paul and Jake Kasdan would encourage us to go off script and just to make each other laugh. And that led the way to the movies that we did after.”
