UK hunts for COVID-19 variant carrier first identified in Brazil
The UK once again propelled into the danger of a new COVID variant initially observed in Brazil. The country officials are hunting for an individual infected with a COVID – 19 variant first identified in the Brazilian city of Manaus.
According to Public Health England (PHE), currently, the country demonstrates 6 cases of the P.1 variant, including three located in England and another three in Scotland.
The two other cases identified in England are from one household in the Gloucestershire region with a history of travel to Brazil, PHE said. The two people ‘have been self-isolating correctly’ there is “minimal reason to believe that there may be further spread,” Zahawi added.
The mysterious person might have tested on February 12 or 13, possibly via postal test or a test collected from a local authority, said Dr. Susan Hopkins, strategic response director at Public Health England (PHE).
The individual may not have completed their form online, or may have thought they did, and may not have got their results, she added.
Contract tracers are getting in touch with all passengers on Swiss Air flight LX318 from São Paulo via Zurich, which landed in London on February 10. The authorities will test them in their homes, PHE said.
The mishap occurred ten days before the UK imposed a quarantine hotel system at their own expense. It happened nearly months after the UK restricted direct flights from Brazil, still UK nationals and residents have been able to return via indirect routes.
The P.1 variant, suspected of fueling a resurgence of viral spread in Brazil. In the survey, 42% of specimens in Manaus and cases have since emerged in the US and Japan.
