Derek Chauvin, a former American police officer, involved in the George Floyd murder case, is eligible for a third-degree charge of third-degree murder. The court ordered on Thursday.

Derek Chauvin faces a more serious charge of second-degree murder, which may sentence him for 40 years, as well as a charge of second-degree manslaughter.
The reinstatement of a third-degree murder charge was a victory for state prosecutors. The third-degree murder charge carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
