Google app store fees cut for developers on first million in sales

Google play app store fees will be cut 15% on the first million dollars said by Google on Tuesday which a developer makes annually.

Google stated that if the developers went beyond the dollar one million marks in sales for a year it will charge its developers a 30% fee for in-app purchases and downloads

A similar decision was taken by Apple in December last year, the only difference was it applies to developers which make under dollar one million per year

The change in policy will address some complaints from the developer around the app store and their fees, this has been taken under regard from regulators over their control of the smartphone operating systems and the price they charge developers. Google will share details of the upcoming program starting on July 1 2021.

”With this change, 99% of developers globally that sell digital goods and services with Play will see a 50% reduction in fees,” said Google VP Sameer Samat.

Google is also facing some state legislatures in the U.S. that are proposing bills that would regulate Google and Apple store
