Bill and Melinda Gates announces divorce on Twitter

Billionaire, philanthropist couple Bill & Melinda Gates announced divorce in a tweet on Monday. They have mutually decided to end their 27 year-long marriage.

The tweet read, “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.”

Despite the end of their marriage, Gates said they would continue to collaborate on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They both have done phenomenal work on grounds of education, gender equality, and health care. The pair have also invested vast sums of money in the search for a coronavirus vaccine and have donated to COVID-19 treatment research.

Bill Gates led Microsoft till the year 2000 along with founding partner Paul Allen, afterward, he left Steve Ballmer in charge. He stepped down from Microsoft’s board because of the rising COVID-19 situation last year and decided to give more time to the Bill and Melinda gates foundation launched in the year 2000.

Melinda Gates was marketing manager at Microsoft that’s when they met at an official dinner for the employees in the year 1987. Seven years later in 1994, the couple got married in Hawaii.
