CEO Cook says that Digital Markets Act is unfavourable for users
In criticism of the proposed amendment to the EU tech law- Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple’s CEO Tim Cook says that it is not quite beneficial for the users. The proposed legislation essentially states that certain tech companies will have to change their ‘lucrative business models’ and incidentally make way for smaller rivals.
In response to the proposed changes, Cook said that “I look at the tech regulation that’s being discussed, I think there are good parts of it. And I think there are parts of it that are not in the best interests of the user…If you take an example of where I don’t think it’s in the best interest, that the current DMA language that is being discussed, would force side-loading on the iPhone. And so this would be an alternate way of getting apps onto the iPhone, as we look at that, that would destroy the security of the iPhone.”
