CinemaSafe: National Association of Theatre Owners unveils health and safety protocols for movie-goers

In an attempt to urge consumers to return to movie theatres as the cinemas are finally starting to return to business in the United States, the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) announced a set of health and safety protocols.

The rules include mandatory masks for both employees as well as customers, enhanced cleaning measures, reduced capacity in auditoriums, proper ventilation among others.

Dubbed CinemaSafe, the NATO protocols are based on the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.

The safety protocols took several months to develop by a team of industry experts in consultation with leading epidemiologists.

“In this new pandemic world, moviegoers need to know that there is a consistent, science and experience-based set of health and safety protocols in place no matter what theatre they visit. This unprecedented industry-wide effort is a promise designed to meet that need,” NATO chief John Fithian said.
