Dumb Money: What is the film about?

Dumb Money, which is based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Antisocial Network, will center on the ludicrous chain of events in January 2021 that led to a dramatic increase in the stock price of the video game retailer GameStop. This stock short squeeze would have a stunning effect on Wall Street and result in significant losses of over $6 billion for hedge funds like Melvin Capital and individual short sellers. The GameStop incidents produced an underdog narrative for regular people and internet users to take control of the stock market in an era where cryptocurrencies and independent stock management have gained popularity. Their success came at the expense of successful, well-established hedge funds and regular Wall Street sellers. The strange circumstance received a lot of media coverage on social media and in the press, but for the majority of people who aren’t investors, the economic intricacy was obscured by the glamorized perspective of meme culture.

However, the official synopsis of the film reportedly reads, “A ragtag group of amateur investors, gamers and internet trolls bring Wall Street to its knees by reviving the challenged brick-and-mortar video game retailer GameStop, making it the first so-called meme stock.”

Dumb Money: When can we watch it?

The movie’s official theatrical release date has been scheduled for October 20, 2023, with Sony Pictures serving as the film’s primary distributor. It will probably wait 45 days after its theatrical release before becoming streamable. The movie will probably wind up streaming on Netflix at some time in early 2024, even though Prime Video would have likely offered it as its first distributor MGM did.
