Elon Musk and Grimes’ baby: Name and how to pronounce it

Elon Musk and Grimes, who gave birth to a baby boy on May 4 last year, have named their son X AE A-XII with the surname Musk. The name,

The couple, who originally wanted their son to be named X Æ A-12, had to make slight adjustments to the name because California law says that only the 26 letters of the English alphabet and certain punctuations can be included on the birth certificate.

Grimes, in a recent Instagram comment, said Roman numerals “looks better tbh.”

Meanwhile, controversies on how the name was to be pronounced are rife after Musk tweeted the seemingly random selection of characters with memes circulating that the pronunciation may be “Kyle”.

During an interview with Joe Rogan, Musk broke down how to correctly pronounce the name. He identified the second character as “ash” — saying it was pronounced X-Ash-A-12.

Grimes also clarified that the name was spoken as the sounds of the singular letters X, A, and I, explaining the name’s origin on Twitter,  saying X was “the unknown variable,” Æ was the “elven spelling” for love or artificial intelligence, A stood for the song “Archangel,” and A-12 was the name of the precursor to their favourite aircraft, the SR-71.

Grimes also told Bloomberg in an interview that she called her son “Little X” for short.

The name, although unusual, is not the first rare name to pop up on the chart, what with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow naming her daughter Apple, though it would certainly top it.
