Here’s everything you need to know about Britney’s mother and fathers spat over the conservatorship case and reimbursement of ‘unnecessary’ fees
Britney’s conservatorship and matters related to that has always been in media scrutiny, especially since she entered her father’s conservatorship in 2008 after she suffered a mental breakdown in public, and also went to a psychiatric hospital for mental health issues.
Britney’s father was given the responsibility to take care of her financial and life decisions However, terms were not revealed then. In September 2020 Britney’s lawyers filed a petition requesting the court to make the decisions and matter public as there is nothing in it which is sensitive. This may also hint at her support toward the #freebritney movement. The movement is about releasing Britney from conservatorship and letting her take her life decisions on her own.
Other celebrities also came in support of the #freebritney movement after the Framing of Britney documentary by the New York times was aired on Hulu.
Here’s what to know about the controversy revolving around the conservatorship.
Lynne spears accusations
Lynne Spears, in a court filing, asked her ex-husband’s law firm Holland and Knights to reimburse ‘unnecessary’ fess which only helps to promote an ‘a national media tour’, thwarting ‘media showing Jamie in a bad light ‘ and not working for the sake of Britney.
Jamie Spears’ reply (through lawyers)
Jamie’s lawyers in the court filing regarding this issue said that this objection should be overruled as Britney’s mother is not acting in the best interest of the pop star.
They also argued in the same filing that till now she was not involved in this case and now out of nowhere she is talking about the bills of which she holds no knowledge and this is leading to late in the matter as well as unprecedented media attention. Jamies lawyers are trying to show him as a cautious conservator and also accused Lynne of exploiting the singer.
However, recently Britney filed an official petition to get her father removed as the conservator and requested to appoint her temporary conservator Jodi Montgomery, who was appointed after her father stepped down due to health issues in 2019.
