Former California Representative Barbara Boxer was assaulted and robbed on Monday in Oakland, California.
It was said in a tweet on Boxer’s verified Twitter account that she was “assaulted in the Jack London Square neighborhood of Oakland. The assailant pushed her in the back, stole her cell phone, and jumped in a waiting car.” According to Associated Press, the tweet was confirmed by her son via email.

Boxer told USA Today that the assault happened while she was walking alone. She confirmed that she was not hurt.
The suspect fled in a waiting vehicle, police told Associated Press. The robbery is under investigation.
Boxer represented California in the US senate from 1993 to 2017.
