Funeral held for police officer who died trying to save drowning girl in Worcester
Thousands of police officers, friends and family gathered in Worcester on Thursday to pay their final respects to their beloved hero and Worcester Police Officer Manny Familia.
Officer Familia died after drowning last Friday after he jumped into Green Hill Pond to save a 14-year-old Troy Love who also drowned.
Familia was brought to a church for his funeral in a horse-drawn carriage on Thursday in Worcester, Massachusetts.
“Manny was different. Wonderful, kind, dedicated to everything and anything he did. Regardless of whether it was difficult or easy, you already knew that smile was going to shine through. He was the light of our family with incredible passion, kindness, and a fierce personality. My brother loved hard, very hard. He didn’t know any other way.” Familia’s older brother, Elvin Familia, said while giving the eulogy.
Governor Charlie Baker and Congressman Jim McGovern were among those who came out to pay their respect and support for the Familia family.
