#GasShortage2021 trends on Twitter after US announces emergency over gas scarcity
The ransomware attack allegedly led by ‘Darkside’ resulted in a gas shortage on the East Coast. It is being said that panic-buying and therefore, hoarding are major reasons behind this crisis.
An app called GasBuddy that is designed to keep a track of prices and demand, supply stocks of fuel have reported that 12.3% and 8.6% of Gas Stations in North Carolina and Virginia respectively have run out of Gasoline. Numbers in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina are also not very promising at 8%, 3% and 5.9%.
If the problem of panic buying is not effectively dealt with, the crisis can go on for many more days than it actually has to. During Tuesday’s White House Press briefing, Americans were ensured that everything would return to normal over the weekend so there is no reason to panic.
