Good performance is good performance no matter sexual orientation of who’s making them: Cate Blanchett

Supporting the Berlin festival’s recent decision to do away with gendered prizes and only give the best actor award, Hollywood star Cate Blanchett said, “I think good performance is a good performance no matter the sexual orientation of who is making them.”

The Australian, who is heading the jury at the Venice film festival, also said she would rather be called an actor than an actress.

Blanchett said she is of the generation where the word “actress” was used almost always in a “pejorative sense.”
