Pichai in his blog post wrote, “Within a decade we aim for every Google data centre, cloud region, and office campus, to run on clean electricity for every hour of every day.”
He also added that the tech giant is shifting data centre backup generation to batteries, which will advance time-based clean energy and will allow Google customers to select the lowest carbon regions.
In 2013, the company started buying renewable energy as a part of its sustainable strategy. In the first year, it bought 35% of its energy from renewable sources. The number later jumped to 61% in 2016 and reached 100% in 2017.
