Here’s everything you need to know about HBO’s ‘The Nevers’

The Nevers is a period drama incorporating in itself the sci-fi element. It features a gang of Victorian women, in the 19th century London, set out to turn the world upside down.

The pilot episode portrays a  pastel-colored liquid distributed from high up in the air. Exactly three years later, hundreds of people, primarily women, have manifested unusual abilities and are henceforth called “the Touched.” No sooner did the ordinary people begin accusing these women of witchcraft or Satan than the philanthropist Lavinia Bidlow hires Amalia True to run a haven called Saint Romaulda’s Orphanage. Along with Penance Adair, True tracks down other Touched women and brings them to her school for safekeeping.

Now the ‘powers’ these women have, are individualistic. Penance’s power to see “potential energy”, makes her London’s foremost steampunk inventor.

True’s power lies in seeing forward in time. True and Penance follow the report of a Touched teenager, Myrtle. She has been gifted with the ability to understand every language spoke on the planet, but on the downside, she can no longer speak English.

The episode showcases Myrtle’s bizzare when she finds Primrose, the 5’10 tall 15 years old.

Now, not all Touched are good. Maladie, the leader of the anti is  a serial killer targeting psychoanalysts. Her gang sees their abilities as a path to power. Annie, the ‘bonfire’ and Mary with her ‘special -powered voice’ and Maladie fleeing loose leading to  True’s frustration makes the plot interesting.

The six episodes of Part 1 of Season 1 air on HBO on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET and streams starting the next day on HBO Max.
