Here’s how America celebrated its 245th Birthday

COVID-19 pandemic spoiled all celebrations last year, but this year, Americans celebrated the 4th of July with a new spirit in Boston. The world knows about Americans’ patriotism and love for the flag. July 4th is the day when the original 13 colonies of the states became legally independent from British rule.

1,000 first responders and military personnel were invited to the White House for a barbecue picnic and a prime view of the annual fireworks show on the nearby National Mall by U.S. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden.

The celebrations started at 9 a.m. at City Hall Plaza. The ceremony was presided by Mayor Kim Janey and was succeeded by a parade.

AT The Old State House, after “God Bless America” was sung and “Pledge of Allegiance” was recited, The Declaration of Independence was then read from. Bostonians first heard a reading of the document on July 18, 1776, at the same place.

The Zarba Military Band then played “Stars and Stripes Forever” after which confetti was showered. The USS Constitution then fired a 21-gun salute at Castle Island. The oldest commissioned ship in the U.S. Navy fired an additional 17-gun salute as it passed the former site of Edmund Hartt’s Shipyard, where the USS Constitution was built in 1797. In New York, 65,000 fireworks shells were loaded onto five barges to shoot off at nightfall.

People all over America met their relatives and friends which led to huge traffic too. Health officials urged Americans to get vaccinated, although young people in particular but Trump’s supporters did show a bit of reluctance to the vaccination. America continues to struggle with race and gender inequalities, but officials say, it is striving for a more perfect union.
