How to build a cat’s humble abode?
Naturally cats need a cozy snug place of their own. It’s their safe zone where they feel safe from any of the dangers. The place gets warm with the heat dissipated from their own bodies and it ends up smelling like them.
One can design a small cat house conveniently inside or outside the house as per their requirements.
What all do you need:
For the base: A plywood or thickly layered hardboard
For the body: Old pet house, cardboard delivery boxes
For the roof: Thick sheets of cardboard
Optimal Size:
Cats usually like small cave-like structures where they have enough space to roll and move but not so much that it’s difficult to warm up. House cats are small and will appreciate the snug fit so anywhere near 8x14x7 to 26x26x32. It depends on the cat you have and how fast its growth pattern is.
Necessities:
A house should feel harmless and fun to your pet. You can line the inside of it with nipped straws so it’s soft and does not absorb all of their body heat. You can also sweeten the deal by placing some of your cat’s favourite toys in there.
See that there is a bowl of water filled enough at all times inside the house. You should be sure not to startle your cat when it is inside or it would feel like people can sneak up on them while they are defenseless.
If the house you are building is an inside one, make sure there is an entry and exit so that your pet knows that they can come in and go as they prefer. Also, you can monitor their activities while they are inside of it.
If you want to add a roof, it would be more convenient if it is removable. So you can easily clean the inside of it.
For an outdoor house, it is better to build it on an elevated platform. The materials should, of course, be sturdier so that they are properly held in place.
