Jamaican reggae legend Toots Hibbert dies aged 77
Born in May Pen, Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, his 1968 song “Do the Reggay” is believed to be the genesis of the name for Reggae music.
Jamaican reggae legend Frederick Nathaniel “Toots” Hibbert, one of the most influential musicians, has died at the age of 77, his band Toots and The Maytals said.
Hibbert passed away “peacefully” in Jamaica surrounded by his family members at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

While the cause of his demise has not been announced, the band said Hibbert had been taken to intensive care unit on September 3.
