Jim Parson’s Birthday: Have a look at the timeline of his romance with Todd Spiewak

They say you don’t need the world, you don’t need the riches, you need the one person who’d stand by you even when you don’t want to stand by yourself. While most of us believe in soulmates or true love, only some manage to secure that in life, and their story often becomes something we like going back to for it makes us believe and fills us with hope!

On Jim Parson’s birthday today, we’d like to take you through a timeline of his beautiful romance with his husband Todd Spiewak over years.

It was in November 2002 that Parsons and Spiewak had met for a blind date. Spiewak, back then, used to work as a graphic designer, and looking back at that day, he has said that the connection between them “was pretty quick”. We also know that Spiewak’s song choice for the night was Cher’s “I Found Someone”…and we cannot get over how it mirrors what he said and felt that night!

By 2010, Parsons had landed his big break as Sheldon Cooper and had won an Emmy for lead actor in comedy series. While he thanked his mom in his acceptance speech, he very cleverly slipped in Todd’s name as well and most of us wouldn’t have known what was brewing. The news became public when the writer Patrick Healy described Parsons as “gay and in a 10-year relationship” in a New York Times profile.

While Todd or no other details were made explicit, this served as his coming out back then.  Even Parsons went on to say that to James Lipton in a sit-down for “Inside the Actor’s Studio,” admitting that he took Spiewak to events but that he “just didn’t mention” being gay to the press. He had further added, “[Healy] just point-blank asked, ‘Was working on The Normal Heart [a Broadway play about the AIDS crisis] meaningful to you as a gay man?'” Parsons recalls. “And I was like, ‘Well, yeah. Yeah.’ And what a wonderful … I can’t tell you what a wonderful thing that was, what a gift he gave me with one question. It was suddenly out there and official.”

Fans were overjoyed when he mentioned Todd in his acceptance speech for his third Emmy in 2013 and called him his “favorite person on Earth” and made it solidly official! In fact, the next month, the duo was honored by the LGBT youth advocacy organization GLSEN with the Inspiration Award. That was when they walked together in public and gave interviews for the very first time. Describing their love, Parsons had said,  “I’ve never considered my relationship with Todd to be an act of activism. Rather simply, it’s an act of love, coffee in the morning, going to work, washing the clothes, taking the dogs [out] — a regular life, boring love.”

The couple also had two lil dogs at their place and by then also started a production company called ‘That’s Wonderful Productions’. All this lead to widespread rumors that Parsons had proposed to Spiewak which in a way miffed in and resulted in a clarification post with a caption “still very happy today…..and NOT engaged” in August 2014.

In March 2015, Parsons reached a milestone in his career by being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and as we have seen through the years, Spiewak was right next to him for this special moment. By then, wherever Jim went, whichever talk-shows he was a part, he was asked about his plans to marry Todd..after all they’d been together for more than a decade now, hadn’t they? Well, all that was answered when in May 2017, the couple tied the knot in New York!

In 2021, it would be 19 years since they’d have known each other and as they inch closer to two decades, they push us a little towards believing love is and what is looks like!
