Kanye West issues legal filing against Walmart second time in a week
Kanye West has issued another legal filing against the retail giant Walmart resulting in increased tension between the singer and Walmart.
This legal filing comes as a second in less than a week. Previously Kanye sued Walmart for selling knockoff sneakers of his label Yeezy. On Tuesday he filed another paperwork to dismiss a trademark dispute that Walmart has against Yeezy.
Walmart had filed an objection with US Patent and Trademark Office over Yeezy’s logo being too similar to its own.
On Tuesday Yeezy asked that Walmart’s accusation be dismissed saying that Walmart “certainly knows, as does the consuming public, that the last thing [Yeezy] wants is to do is associate itself with [Walmart].” The idea that the “internationally famous” rapper, entrepreneur, and former US presidential candidate would seek “to mislead consumers into mistakenly believing that the parties are associated – is, simply put, absurd,” added Yeezy.
Yeezy had filed for a trademark application in January 2020 to use the logo on all its products. But the process was halted following Walmart’s complaint that Yeezy’s logo comprised of eight dotted lines emanating from a circle, is too similar to its sun logo comprised of six solid lines around a circle.
The dispute escalated last week when Yeezy sued Walmart for selling fake Foam Runners.
Walmart has argued that the fakes were sold by independent sellers on their third-party marketplace and not Walmart itself. Walmart has removed listings for “Yeezy Inspired Slides” following the accusations.
