Kim Kardashian files for divorce from Kanye West

On Friday, Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West. Kim has requested joint legal and physical custody of their kids and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.

Apparently, their marriage had reached its breaking point and they had not spent time together as a couple in months. She is definite that it’s over for them and their kids are their only priority right now. Kimye, who went public with their relationship in April 2012 and married in May 2014, share four children together, North West,7, Saint West, 5, Chicago West, 3, and Psalm West, 20 months.

They hadn’t commented on this for quite a long time now and she hadn’t submitted documents officially for the sake of their kids. “Kim is only focused on what’s best for the kids. It’s a tough decision for her and she’s figuring it out.”, says a source. Over the past few months, Kim and Kanye’s now separate lives began to take shape as the hip-hop star stayed at his Wyoming ranch permanently while she continued living in Los Angeles.

Let’s look back at how their relationship progressed over the years:

In 2003, Kim and Kanye had met, when she was working as Brandy’s assistant.

“I met him I think in 2002 or 2003. He was recording a song with Brandy, and I was her friend. I vividly remember hanging out with him and then they did a video together, so I’d see him a few times. He was asking his friends: ‘Who is this Kim Kardajan?’ He didn’t know what my name was,” she said during the KUWTK 10-year anniversary.

Kim was then married to Damon Thomas at the time, but she remained friends with Kanye, who later revealed that he was drawn to Kim from the moment he saw her. “I just knew I wanted her to be my girl for a long time,” he had said.  “I remember I saw a picture of her and Paris Hilton, and I remember telling my boy, ‘Have you seen that girl Kim Kardijon?'”

In 2008,  Kanye insisted that Kim appeared on his hip-hop puppet show called “Alligator Boots” in 2008.  Director Tom Stern recalled writing the part of Princess Leia for another actress but told  that Kanye said they needed the reality star.

“We were talking about it, and Kanye was like, ‘Nah, nah, nah. Get Kim Kardashian!'” Stern said.  Though the show never took off, the rapper did end up getting Kim to play Princess Leia.

In 2009, Kanye reportedly made reference to Kim in his music for the first time, the lyrics read: “You were always the cheerleader of my dreams / Seem to only date the head of football teams / And I was the class clown that always kept you laughing / We were never meant to be, baby we just happened,” Kanye sang, later adding, “You should leave your boyfriend now.”

In 2010, Kanye made his first appearance on the “KUWTK” spin-off in, when he met up with Kim and her sister Kourtney Kardashian at their boutique in New York.

In 2011, Kim married then-boyfriend Kris Humphries and Kanye tried his best to persuade her not to. He went ahead to send pictures of basketball players that had not aged well to dissuade her. However, they did eventually marry and remained married for 72 days.

By 2012, Kim and Humphries had begun divorce proceedings.  Kanye may have seen it as an opening because he rapped about falling in love with Kim in the song “Cold”, whose lyrics read :  “And I’ll admit, I had fell in love with Kim / Around the same time she had fell in love with him / Well that’s cool, baby girl, do ya thang / Lucky I ain’t had Jay drop him from the team,” the lyrics read.

The last line in Kanye’s verse took a jab at Humphries, who was a player on the Brooklyn Nets in 2012.

Kourtney later confirmed that her sister was seeing the rapper on an episode of KUWTK.  She added that she wasn’t sure about how serious Kim and Kanye were at the time since they’ve been longtime friends. “I mean just ’cause I’m seen with someone, does that automatically mean that’s my boyfriend?” Kim said on the episode.

In April that month, they were seen out together for the first time in New York City.

Kanye had started attending Kardashian family events and Kim went ahead to tweet “”#NoChurchInTheWild …. Proud girlfriend tweet”

In December, they announced they were expecting a baby together. Kanye so during a New Year’s Eve performance in Atlantic City.

Kim then confirmed the news in a blog post on her website, according to People.”It’s true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us,” she wrote.

In 2013, Kim’s divorce was final and that very year, Kimye attended the Met Gala as a couple. She was eight months pregnant by then.

While in coming months, Kim had her baby shower, rumors were flying that Kanye had cheated on her, which were vehemently denied by him. On June 15, 2013, Kim gave birth to their daughter North West at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

In October, Kanye proposed to her at the AT&T Stadium in San Francisco, which she thought was just a birthday celebration.

In 2014, they shot for a vogue cover and were the only biracial couple to have featured.

     

In 2015, she gave birth to their first son, Saint West.
