Kristen Steward as Princess Diana in Larraín’s ‘Spencer’

Kristen Steward has recently started shooting for Pablo Larraín’s Spencer. It is one of the more talked-about roles, of Diana, Princess of Wales.

The film was first announced during the 2020 virtual Cannes Market. It is scripted over a critical weekend in the early ’90s, around the time when Diana decided she needed to end her marriage with Prince Charles. The film takes place during a three-day weekend at one of her last Christmases as part of the Royal Family. The same weekend was also part of the latest season of The Crown.

Other cast members of the film are Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, and Sean Harris. Filming is set to take place in Germany and U.K.

Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life,” said Stewart. He added, “It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name: Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold on to what the name Spencer means to her.”

The film is expected to be launched in autumn 2021, almost a year before Diana’s 25th death anniversary in 2022.
