Last Week Tonight host John Oliver cracks a joke for the last time about Prince Philip

The United Kingdom is still in its eight-day national mourning period after His Royal Highness left for the heavenly abode on April 9. The Duke of Edinburgh was 99 years old when he passed away.

Prince Philip’s funeral is set to take place at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday, April 17 at 3 p.m.

John Oliver, a noted critic of the royal family, looks to recall everyone about that Windsor rapscallion.

Taking a verbal digression on Sunday’s episode of the Last Week Tonight, Oliver took a look down the memory lane about how exactly Philip was an ideal suitor for Queen Elizabeth before their 1946 wedding, and it involved …genetics.

“In the U.K., Prince Philip died, which is a tragedy if you don’t know a single thing about him. And even if you know a little bit about him, you might not know this,” Oliver cracked a joke, showing a now-viral clip of a British newsman admitting Philip and Elizabeth were related. (They are, specifically, third cousins from Queen Victoria’s lineage.) “Yeah, it’s true,” Oliver added. “Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth are cousins who later got married — also known as a Giuliani meet-cute.” that Community writer surely must feel acquitted now.
