Maryland father, toddler found dead in alleged murder suicide case
Mayland State Police is investigating what is supposed to be a murder-suicide case as the bodies of 34-year old Sean Thompson and his 2-year-old toddler son were found along the Appalachian Trail in Washington County early Friday morning where both the victims were pronounced dead on the scene.
Early investigation sources claim that Sean’s wife appeared concerned and distressed as she said he had been “despondent” lately and had called the police station on Thursday night reporting her husband and son to be missing. He had gone to her parent’s place in Boonsboro to pick up their toddler to go hiking. She had also driven to the parking lot along the Appalachian Trail in the 11000 blocks of Baltimore National Pike in Boonsboro where she found her husband’s car parked.
But just a few hours later around 3 a.m., Friday morning, the body of the 2-year-old boy was discovered. It was found along a ravine off the trail, more than a mile north of where the car was parked. An hour later Sean’s body was found as well, both the bodies would be sent for medical examination to the chief medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for autopsies.
The homicide unit and crime scene detectives are processing the scene as both bodies showed signs of trauma and a knife was also discovered around the area, which is in a rugged location only accessible on foot. As no suspects or motives are identified yet, the investigation is ongoing.
