Microsoft confirms 10X Death, assures new features to Windows 10

Microsoft confirmed the death of Windows 10X and said that it is launching key 10X features to mainstream Windows 10 instead.

“Following a year-long exploration and engaging in conversations with customers, we realized that the technology in Windows 10X could be used in more ways and serve more customers than we originally imagined,” a Microsoft blog post notes. “We concluded that the 10X technology shouldn’t just be confined to a subset of customers.”

Microsoft affirmed that Windows 10X features shouldn’t be only for a segment of customers. Instead, it’s going to be folding a bunch of Windows 10X features into regular Windows 10. The Redmond firm stated that a few of these features are already in the core of Windows 10 if you’re on the Dev channel of the Windows Insider Program.

The codename for the new design in Windows 10 is called Sun Valley, and it’s coming at the end of this year.

In the blog post though, Microsoft didn’t talk about Sun Valley. In fact, when it talked about the death of Windows 10X and adding some of its features to Windows 10, it didn’t talk about design, arguably one of the most appealing features of the new OS.
