Netflix teams up with 21 Laps to produce a feature adaptation of ‘The Poet’
The production company Netflix has taken over The Poet. It’s a real crime article written by Corey Mead and published by Greg Nichols and Matthew Pearl’s digital magazine and media company, Truly* Adventurous.
The OTT platform has collaborated with Stanger Things production company 21 Laps, with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen producing the project under the label alongside Pouya Shahbazian.
This true story, which is narrated as being in the vein of Gone Girl and The Gift, is based on hundreds of pages of never-before-seen documents and newly discovered sources. The article depicts the story of Ruth Finley, who escaped a murderer as a teen. It was only to find herself on the run again decades later as the BTK killer terrorizes her hometown. With a group of cop investigators and her beloved husband’s intention of saving her, the identity of her tormentor is too scary to believe.
The previous year, 21 Laps and Netflix had set the first-look film and TV pact, with over 6 series in production and more than 15 additional series and films in active development.
Truly* Adventurous has set up more than 30 film and TV projects in their first two years, including Focus Features’ Secrets & Wives.
