Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday asked a judge to throw out Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit relating to his false claims about the November 2020 presidential election being manipulated.

In a court filing, Giuliani’s lawyer said that Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit should be rejected for lack of jurisdiction and because the company did not justify its request for money damages sufficiently.

The filing said Giuliani denies defaming Dominion. It also said that a more forceful defense would be presented by the former New York City mayor on the merits if his jurisdictional arguments are rejected by the judge in the District of Columbia assigned to the case.

“Should this matter reach legal or factual adjudication on the merits, Giuliani will provide a vigorous and complete response,” the court filing stated.

Trump and his supporters kept denying his election defeat for two months and claimed that it was the result of voting fraud across the country without evidence.

Denver-based Dominion filled a lawsuit on Jan. 25 alleging that Giuliani “manufactured and disseminated the ‘Big Lie,’ which seem to have deceived millions of people into believing that Dominion had stolen their votes and fixed the election.”

Giuliani, later on, said that Dominion’s lawsuit was aimed at deterring him from exercising his free speech rights.

Like Giuliani, Sidney Powell, another former Trump campaign lawyer, and pro-Trump businessman Mike Lindell of My Pillow Inc have denied defaming Dominion as they were also included in similar pending defamation lawsuits from Dominion.

President Joe Biden is “worried” about a new set of voting restrictions approved in the state of Georgia, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Friday.

The new law, signed on Thursday by Republican Governor Brian Kemp would prevent people from bringing water to voters in line, reduce open hours at polling locations and restrict the use of absentee ballots.

“There’s nothing more precious than the right to vote and speak up,” Psaki told reporters, adding that she expected President Biden to make a statement on the issue himself soon.

“It should be easier to vote,” she continued, “We should not put limitations in place. People should be able to vote from home. They should be able to use absentee ballots. There should be a range of restrictions that are undone, not put back in place.”

She also voiced support for efforts by congressional Democrats to pass federal voting rights and election reform legislation, efforts that have already run into strong Republican opposition.

Georgia’s new law will impose new limits, including stricter identification requirements, limiting drop boxes, giving lawmakers the power to take over local elections and shortening the early voting period for all runoff elections. Offering food and water to voters waiting in line will now be considered a misdemeanour crime.

Kemp offered no apology for “taking another step to making our elections fair and secure” but opponents describe the law as one of the country’s most damaging attempts to limit access to the ballot box in addition to being designed to reduce the influence of Black voters.

Dominion Voting Systems has filed a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News, saying the network circulated false claims that the voting machine company was involved in voter fraud during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

The lawsuit filed on Friday in Delaware stated that Fox sold a false story of election fraud in order to serve its own commercial purposes, severely injuring Dominion in the process. “If this case does not rise to the level of defamation by a broadcaster, then nothing does,” the lawsuit mentioned.

The complaint also mentions that Fox endorsed, repeated, and broadcast a series of lies that were devastating and verifiably false about Dominion, including claims that the company’s software manipulated the results of the 2020 vote.

In response to the lawsuit filed, Fox News issued a statement Friday morning stating that it “is proud of our 2020 election coverage, which stands in the highest tradition of American journalism, and will vigorously defend against this baseless lawsuit in court.”

Dominion also said that some of its employees have faced harassment and even death threats over claims raised by Fox News.

Dominion’s lawsuit asks for a jury trial and is seeking at least $1.6 billion in lost profits and enterprise value, plus more than $1 million in security expenses and expenses combating disinformation.

Trump ally and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, and Rudy Giuliani, and Sidney Powell, lawyers who worked with Trump on his post-election flurry of legal actions are few others against whom Dominion has filed defamation lawsuits.

The suit also mentions Eric Gavelek Munchel, a Fox Business viewer who is now facing federal charges.

Authorities identified him as a man who wore dark military-style fatigues and carried a bundle of flex cuffs as he clambered over seats in the Senate chamber.
