The suspicious device was a live pipe bomb, reported CBD Des Moines affiliate KCCI-TV. After the device was found the Lakeside Centre was immediately vacated.

As per the station, more than a dozen of people had already cast their vote.

The voters who were left to cast their vote were sent to other polling booths. All votes that were previously cast at the location were still valid, said Fitzgerald.

No other polling sites were expected to be in danger. Fitzgerald said it’s believed to be an isolated incident.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were investigating the entire incident.
