At present, the record remains with Katharine Hepburn. She earned 4 Academy Awards on her mantle. She also holds the prestige of being nominated 12 times.

Jack Nicholson has gladened us with many of his performances. There is no other male actor as many as his total number of nominations. The Hollywood legend won the first Oscar award for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), the second Terms of Endearment (1983), and the third for As Good as It Gets (1997).

Daniel Day-Lewis

3 Wins (6 Nominations)

Daniel Day-Lewis comes under the list of one of three actors to ever take home three Oscars. He was nominated six times for his flawless performances. His first was for My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown (1989) and after that, he didn’t win again for almost two decades. he won his second trophy for There Will Be Blood (2007). His latest win was for Lincoln (2012), where he played the main lead character and former U.S. President.

Walter Brennan

3 Wins (4 Nominations)

While Walter Brennan doesn’t have as many nominations to his name as others, yet he has won in 3 out of 4 nominations. His three wins are for Come and Get It (1936), Kentucky (1938), and The Westerner (1940). He didn’t win only when he was nominated for Sergeant York (1941).

Spencer Tracy

2 Wins (9 Nominations)

Spencer Tracy is the second-most nominated actor ever. His two wins were for Captain Courageous (1937) and Boys Town (1938).

Marlon Brando

2 Wins (8 Nominations)

Over a lengthy span of his career, Marlon Brando has collected two Oscars and eight nominations. This prolific actor’s first win was for On the Waterfront (1954) followed by The Godfather (1972) wherein he played Don Vito Corleone in the film. He died in 2004 at the age of 80.

Jack Lemmon

2 Wins (8 Nominations)

Jack Lemmon’s two wins were for  Mister Roberts (1955) and Save the Tiger (1973). He died in 2001 at the age of 76. He is also a part of the Oscar two timers club

Denzel Washington

2 Wins (8 Nominations)

The only Black man on the list, Denzel Washington has got to his name two wins and eight nominations. His first win was Glory (1989) and his second Training Day (2001).

Robert De Niro

2 Wins (7 Nominations)

Robert De Niro, also won two Oscars. His pair of wins were for The Godfather: Part II (1974) and Raging Bull (1980).

Dustin Hoffman

2 Wins (7 Nominations)

While Dustin Hoffman has only won twice — for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) and for Rain Man (1988) — Dustin Hoffman has been nominated an impressive seven times.

Michael Caine

2 Wins (6 Nominations)

Michael Caine took home the coveted award for Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) and for The Cider House of Rules (1999).
