Okay, as we know Twitter is weird, but even weird-er the people who assume Cinco de Mayo to be Mexican Independence Day.

Today we commemorate the Battle of Puebla where the Mexican Army was victorious over the French during the Franco-Mexican War.

One user in a thread explained the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ of the day-

“Do: Support local Mexican business.

Don’t : Wear Mexican cultural costumes to look “funny”.

Do: Celebrate the Mexican culture with full responsibility.

Don’t :  Add ‘o’ at the end of every English word to make it look like ‘Spanish’ and ‘funny’.”

DO: Support local AUTHENTIC Mexican businesses. Treat yourself to some tacos. Taco Bell or Chipotle don't count.

DON'T: Wear sombreros, serapes, fake mustaches, etc. to be funny because it's not. MY culture is not YOUR costume.

DO: Celebrate our culture responsibly.

DON'T: Add an "o" the end of an English word to make it Spanish. 1. It doesn't make sense and 2. Don't mock our language because, once again, it's not funny.

So again, Cinco De Mayo is to commemorate the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla. The noteworthy aspect is that the 2000 Mexican fought tooth and nails to the 6000 French invaders.
