One Direction: Here’s looking into what the former members have spoken about, since their hiatus

One Direction is a former all boy British band, that comprised of some very popular artists of today, including Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson.

It was formed in 2010, on the reality singing show ‘X-Factor’, where the boys competed against each other, during the show’s auditions.

After having a successful career of five years, and releasing record breaking superhits, one of the members Zayn Malik, decided to quit the band in 2015, following which the remaining four members released their final album and announced a hiatus, which didn’t come to an end till today, leaving the fans in shock and disappointment.

Ever since, the members are now all popular artists, having delivered amazing solo performances while some still remaining friends with each other.

They went ahead to talk about their fellow band mates songs and career and also opened up on their equations with them and how they felt about the days when they were a part of ‘One Direction’.

Let’s have a look at what all they have talked about since their hiatus-

Zayn Malik

During his first interview with ‘Fader Magazine’ after leaving the band, calling their music “generic as f****”, he said, “Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us. There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band and I just wasn’t convinced with what we were selling”.

Malik opened up on how he never wanted to be in the band, in his 2016 interview with ‘Beats 1″, saying,“I think I always wanted to go, from like the first year, really. I never really wanted to be there, like in the band. I realised the direction we were going in with the music, I instantly realised it wasn’t for me because I realised I couldn’t put any input in”.

Harry Styles

In response to Malik’s comment on how the band’s music wasn’t cool and that he didn’t really enjoyed listening to, Styles in his 2017 interview with ‘Rolling Stone’ said, “I think it’s a shame he felt that way, but I never wish anything but luck to anyone doing what they love. If you’re not enjoying something and need to do something else, you absolutely should do that. I’m glad he’s doing what he likes, and good luck to him.”

In the very same interview, Styles also talked about the reason for hiatus, while being all praises for the band. He said, “I love the band and would never rule out anything in the future. The band changed my life, gave me everything.”

Liam Payne

In 2019, Liam took to Twitter, to stop his fan from asking him questions related to the band’s hiatus, tweeting, “Can people stop passing blame to me about this I get asked this ridiculous question 500x a day so I just say whatever guess I have at the time, but still this band has 3 other members you want the answer ask them.”

During his conversation in ‘The Diary of a CEO’ podcast, in June 2021, Liam opened up on his addiction phase and consequent suicidal thoughtful, saying, “There were a few pictures of me on a boat and I was all bloated out and I call it pills-and-booze face, I just didn’t like myself very much.”

He added, “At a certain point I thought, I’m going to have a party for one and that seemed to carry on for many years of my life.”

Niall Horan

Talking to the ‘British GQ’ in March 2020, about his equation with other band mates, he said, “We don’t get to see each other as much as we’d like to, but we try. I talk to Louis a lot. It’s the lads with the kids that you try to keep in touch with especially, just to see how they are.”

In his March 2021 interview during the ‘People, Just People’ podcast, talking about his feelings before hiatus, Niall said, “It sounds mad even saying it. We’d done two years of stadiums and it was kind of like there. So where do you go now without messing it up? There’s no conversation of, Let’s leave it 20 years.”

Louis Tomlinson

Speaking on his deteriorated friendship with Malik, he said in October 2019, “I just don’t think I am mature enough, even in my own head, to give that a real answer. At the moment, I am still pretty mad about the whole thing.”

In conversation with ‘Cosmopolitan’ in January 2020, talking about his equation with fellow mates and hinting at the band’s reunion, he said, “I wouldn’t say I’m closest to any of the boys. Recently, I’ve probably spoken to Liam 10 times as much as I spoke to the other lads. Six months ago, that was Niall.”

“Anything over 30 sounds f****** old to me right now,” he added.
