Oregon to lift COVID restrictions by June 30, Governor Kate Brown announces

On Friday, Kate Brown, Governor of Oregon announced that the state will reopen latest by Wednesday, June 30.

An executive order issued by Gov. Brown will result in the suspension of all COVID-19 related health and safety restrictions. This shall include the statewide rule of wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and adhering to capacity limits. The order shall take effect when Oregon 70% of the adult population of Oregon receives their first dose, or by June 30, whichever comes first.

“I’m proud of our collective efforts to vaccinate more than 2.3 million Oregonians. It is because of this success that we can move Oregon forward, and into the next chapter of this pandemic. We are ready,” said Brown.

 

Gov. Brown said that the emphases post the restrictions being lifted will be on helping residents and communities recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

Under the purview of the new order, the mandate on wearing masks will be lifted statewide except for some places that lie under federal guidance like airports, public transportation, and places related to health care.

“Brighter days are ahead,” Brown said. “And, we are more determined than ever to make sure we ground our state in a strong recovery that reaches every single Oregonian as we turn a page on this chapter of the pandemic. Our work is not done, but we can all take a moment to celebrate that by next week, we will be moving forward together.”

 

Brown’s recovery order will remain in effect until December 31, 2021.
