After a pitch by Riordan to the Walt Disney Corporation, development on the series was under way by May 2020. In July 2021, James Bobin was chosen to helm the pilot episode, while Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were named as the showrunners. In January 2022, Scobell was chosen for the lead role, while Jeffries and Simhadri joined the cast in May. Jet Wilkinson and Anders Engström were also scheduled to helm several episodes of the show before September.
