Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines indicates a rare risk of heart inflammation

Within few days after receiving vaccine shots, the fact sheets were revised to include a warning about myocarditis and pericarditis after the second dose. Data shows that Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines indicate a rare risk of heart inflammation. Myocarditis refers to inflammation of the heart muscle and pericarditis is the term given to inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart.

But benefits of getting vaccinated are much more worth than the risks, according to health officials.

FDA follows CDC for regular updates. “The risk of myocarditis and pericarditis appears to be very low given the number of vaccine doses that have been administered,” Janet Woodcock, acting FDA commissioner, stated.

There have been more than 1,200 cases of rare heart disease in people aged 30 and under who received the shots, according to presentation slides from the CDC meeting.

But even after 300 million shots, There have been just 12.6 heart inflammation cases per million doses for both vaccines combined.
