Prince Philip stays hospitalized nearly a month after heart surgery
Prince Philip stays within the hospital on Monday while recovering from heart surgery nearly four weeks after he was first hospitalized.
Initially, the 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to London’s private King Edward VII hospital on Feb. 16 for a few days of “observation and rest,” which was later known to be a treatment for an infection.
At the beginning of March, the Prince was transferred to a specialized cardiac care hospital St Bartholomew’s for testing and observations and eventually underwent heart surgery.
The Palace said that the operation was successful but did not reveal any other details.
Philip will continue to rest and recover “for a number of days” at King Edward VII Hospital, where he was transferred back to on March 5.
His recovery coincides with the ongoing outcome from his grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s remarks on racism within the royal family during their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey last week.
The couple claimed that there were talks over how “dark” their unborn baby would be by a relative but have refused to name the family member in question.
Later, Oprah said it wasn’t the Queen or Prince Philip.
Prince Charles, Philip’s son publicly visited him since his hospitalization.
Philip had a coronary stent put in to fix a blocked artery in 2011 after suffering chest pains.
