Prince William and Prince Harry maintain their ‘distance’ behind Prince Philip’s coffin
A startling spectacle in the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip’s funeral procession was the distance between the two young heirs.
Prince Harry and Prince William were seen walking on either sides of their cousin Peter Phillips in the solemn procession to St George’s Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle. This image brought back memories of 1997, when the two brothers walked behind the coffin of their mother, Princess Diana.
This depicts the family struggle over the Duke of Sussex’s voluntary shift to America.Quoting Harry from the last month Oprah Winfrey interview, “The relationship is space at the moment, and, you know, time heals all things, hopefully,” Harry said. “I love William to bits. He’s my brother. We’ve been through hell together, and we have a shared experience, but we were on different paths.” His wife Meghan Markle, who was advised not to travel in her pregnancy, stayed back in the US.
According to Deadline, Buckingham Palace said it would not be drawn on any “perceptions of drama” surrounding the order of the procession, which took place behind a specially modified Land Rover. A spokesperson said, “The arrangements have been agreed, and they represent Her Majesty’s wishes.”
Peter Phillips is the only son of Princess Anne and her first husband. However, not a working royal, he is the oldest grandchild of Philip and Queen Elizabeth.
Unlike opulent Royal Funerals, the service of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh had only 30 attendees, mostly comprising family; Duke of Edinburgh’s children Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne. This was in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
