Ranking ‘King Kong’ movies from best to trash

It’s 2021 and we are waiting for the new Godzilla Vs Kong premiering soon on HBO Max. However, with the future in hand, it’s high time that we take a look at our past rating and celebrating the timeline of all the Kong movies.

Starting from the year 1933, Kong has grown up becoming an icon in the Hollywood entertainment world, although there has been a number of evolutions in our favorite monster, we still love seeing him fighting with “bad ones.”

The movies ranked from best to trash!

King Kong (1933)

The 1933 King Kong movie starring Robert Armstrong and Fay Wray and Bruce Cabot will always be a classic. The movie holds a vital position in America’s horror film list being timeless with its own unique creations. The way they used the stop motion cinematography and miniature props was way ahead of the time creating a never-ending diaspora for the movie.

King Kong (2005)

This version of the King Kong remake was worth everything! We talk about everyone when we say thank you for giving us a much-upgraded version of King Kong Peter Jackson. Well executed action sequences, paired up with amazing visual effects and a team of great stars, is what created a neverending masterpiece.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

The Kong: Skull Island is one of the movies in the MosterVerse that worked up as a reboot rather than just being an adaptation. The 2017 movie gave us some A-listed actors like Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson creating a better diaspora than any other Kong movie. Jordan Vogt Roberts, the director of the movie did a great job avoiding the typical storyline of “Beauty and the Beast” creating a masterpiece.

King Kong Vs Godzilla (1962)

It is the first King Kong movie produced by the Japanese production company Toho which went on to become an extraordinary worked of cinema using stop motion animation. The storyline was first cooked-up with Frankenstein monster but the team initially changed the plot for good. Even if the movie is a decade old the fight between King Kong and Godzilla in the colorful kaiju style is worth every watch.

King Kong Escapes (1967)

It is the second Kong movie that came out of the Toho production studios creating a new buzz in the Kong franchise. The movie was an adaptation from the Japanese morning cartoon show, The King Kong Show holding up a greater deal of how Kong escaped in his own verse. The movie got a little bizarre with the addition of Mechani- Kong, a robot double of Kong created by the Villain Dr. Who, but the movie was worth watching for the entertainment level.

King Kong (1976)

There were two major King Kong production released that year, however, this movie didn’t sit according to the fans’ expectations. The film plot went on the same path following the original King Kong storyline, just that the first part was a bit different with a paleontologist dissuading an oil company to dig in on a mysterious island. From the technical view, the movie was top-notch with edits, however, the downfall was the silly borderline dialogues followed by a tacky tone that fades in front of the original movie content.

Son of Kong (1933)

After having tremendous success with King Kong, Ernest B Schodsack came back with a new movie after nine months but this time we didn’t see the original Kong rather the albino son of the mighty monster. The son of Kong is a friendly creature and kind of cute passing no serious threat to the crew. Even the movie featured some sea serpents and face bears but still, that oomph factor was missing in the movie that failed to gather the audience.

The Mighty Kong (1998)

The world needs to be aware of this movie and understand how bizarre and disturbing it was! The 1998 movie by Warner Bros production was a “kid-friendly” animated musical version that ruined our childhood giving us real “kong trauma.” The movie was like the worst byproduct of Disney and WB that was created by mistake and should never be aired again. The series had “Little Mermaid” star Jodi Benson who surely could have done better than this nightmare.

King Kong Lives (1986)

It is a sequel to the 1976 movie King Kong remake showing us that after being shot and dropped down from the world trade center, King Kong lives. When you thought the monster died, he was actually down in a deep coma for 10 years. The movie also introduced us to the lady Kong who saved her beloved’s life by donating blood and also carried his offspring. As expected, Kong fans panned the movie nominating it for having the worst visual effects. We need a puke bucket to watch this!

Kong: King of Atlantis (2005)

Nothing can be worse than seeing an obscure incarnation of Kong in this movie which made us throw up in our sofas. The only thing that made it different is the storyline which was not copied from the original movie. We got to see a villain named Raptila who brainwashed Kong to harsh the people of Atlantis. It still gives out chills and nausea even thinking about it!
