Sabrina Carpenter, RJ Cyler all set to star in comedy thriller ‘Emergency’
Sabrina Carpenter, RJ Cyler, Donald Watkins, and Sebastian Chacon will star in Emergency as per the Deadline. It is a comedy thriller that comes from Amazon Studios and Temple Hill. Carey Williams is on board as the director of the film while filming from the screenplay by KD Dávila, which landed on the 2020 Blacklist.
The movie is based on a short film with the same title. The short picked up the Special Jury Prize at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and the Grand Jury Awar at 2018’s SXSW Film Festival.
The plot of the movie revolves around a group, of BIPOC college students, all set for a party at night, discussing the pros and cons of calling the authorities when faced with an unusual emergency.
RJ Cyler will play the role of Sean who is a senior ready to go on a night of partying with his best friend Kunle played by Donald Watkins and roommate Carlos played by Sebastian Chacon.
After they return to their flat to pre-game, they find a half-conscious white girl on the floor, with whom they are unfamiliar.
Kunle wishes to call the police but Sean intensely opposes the idea. Since no one knows how it will look when the police come.
All three, Carlos, Sean, and Kunle load the girl into Sean’s van, with the intention of taking her somewhere safe rather than calling the cops.
Maddy (Carpenter) has understood that her sister Emma left the party they were at and starts to look for her in a drunk panic state utilizing Emma’s mobile’s location. What results is a tumultuous, amusing, and pressure-filled chase all over town as our triplet wrestles with their disparities while endeavoring to bring Emma to safety.
Williams and Dávila will be on board as executive producers, who stated, “When we made the short film, we didn’t anticipate quite how much it would resonate with people,” said Dávila. “It walked a fine tonal tightrope between comedy and thriller and touched on the culture of fear in BIPOC communities regarding the police. I’m so glad we have the opportunity to tell a bigger version of the story, and extremely fortunate to have found a team that embraced our vision.”
