Swati Mohan Indian -American scientist walked Mars mission 2020

Swati Mohan, who walked the NASA team through Mars Rover perseverance is receiving huge limelight since the takeoff. She is one among dozens of scientists and engineers of Indian-origin working in Nasa’s mars exploration team.

As the world witnessed the historic landing of Nasa’s Mars Rover, it was Indian – American scientist, guiding, navigating, and controlling operations of the Mars 2020 mission.

Mohan announced “Touchdown confirmed! Perseverance is safely on the surface of Mars, ready to seek the signs of past life.” This set the whole control room of cheers and whoops.

Over the course of her career with NASA, Mohan has worked on the Cassini mission to Saturn and GRAIL a pair of formation flown spacecraft to the Moon and has been a mainstay of the Mars 2020 mission since its beginning in 2013.

According to Mohan, her interest in space was peaked after watching the popular TV show Star Trek when she was 9.

“Seeing the beautiful depictions of the new regions of the universe that they were exploring. I remember thinking ‘I want to do that. I want to find new and beautiful places  in the universe.’ she told to NASA
